Late To The Party
6 months past its release on the 8th of February, and I've finally tried Helldivers 2. It's a neat game, for sure, but my introduction was being dragged into missions far beyond what my equipment could tackle. I did, however, get commendations for my supreme rapidness in hammering out stratagems; this may very well be the only time I've ever had a boon from playing far too many rhythm and fighting games over the years.
Make no mistake though, I did have fun.
When I got to play, at least.
And that's the effect of playing fad games way after they release; I've missed the boat, players have come and gone; those who've stayed have geared up to much farther points in the game, and I tend to be dragging my feet quite a distance back.
This doesn't bother me at all, honestly. As a matter of fact, I'm kind of glad I missed out on the peak of the game's popularity, from hearing about the myriad crashes, server overloads, so on and so forth, there's something of a benefit to waiting. Not only that, but I feel less pressure to shape my opinion any one way -- this is what's most important to me, frankly. The more I have something I'm interacting with pushed onto me, the more difficulty I have collecting my thoughts on it; I just end up scrambled and jaded.
And that's no fun at all, so why entertain it?
It brings me to a tangentially related topic that I've had some thoughts about simmering in the mental slow-cooker for a short while now: the idea of a digital detox.
Basically, it's just about leading a low(er) tech lifestyle; little to no social media, legacy devices, less overwhelmingly large amounts of stimulation for seemingly no reason at all. The lack of all-hours information overload makes thinking a whole lot easier, which lends particularly well to experiences not unlike what I had today.
Regardless, I think I'll circle back to Helldivers 2 and the idea of the digital detox in other posts, I just wanted to put the thought about lateness out there. It's not always a bad thing to be late to a fad!
What's the saying, something like "appealingly late", I can't quite remember.
Regardless, netizen. As always, thanks for your time, and see you on the flipside.
