80/20 and us
In the midst of passively listening in on extensive Warhammer 40k Orc lore, I was reminded of something that's done me well to keep in mind historically, and so I write to bring it back to being at the front of my brain when considering what to do:
The 80/20 rule.
Now, I have many thoughts on many of the "golden rules" of productivity; discipline in particular is one that I've always contended with. Regardless, in typical fashion, I've almost instantly derailed myself.
The 80/20 rule states that 80% of results come from 20% of activity. 20% input generates 80% output, and the rest of the time / energy / thought quickly becomes much more marginal.
I've applied this to hobbies in the past, namely language learning: I picked up the grammar guides, the books, the means to reverse-engineer my lack of understanding into answers and did away entirely with the Anki, the studying methods, so on and so forth. Efficiency is lost on the task when everything other than reading and learning the foundational bits is a marginal gain in efficiency. I should mention that at this point, I've managed to attain a point of language capacity where I can read things as I please without worrying for the content, or my ability to understand it.
I am, as many idealize, "fluent", but I'm hardly actually fluent at all. It's just about understanding your goals, so on and so forth.
Currently, I am maintaining that level somewhat minimally as I work on issues (see: inattentivity) that should prove to make the entire act of "doing" both substantially higher quality, and less frustratingly limited in my capacity. In my case, I'm liberally interpreting "fluent" to mean that I've achieved my goals to roundaboutly convince myself that I'm not doing far too little.
This is all a part of convincing myself to work on functioning better. It's something of a rabbit hole, as I've learned, but I'm getting there slowly.
Regardless, netizen, this is enough for now. My focus has weened out of being the main state, so I won't force myself to burn oil trying to write more.
Thanks for reading! Until next time.
